Taking cues from the biblical narrative of 'Susanna and her Elders' that questioned the decency of the young lead Susanna amidst a sexualised gaze from her older male superiors. This narrative was often painted in the classical period and reinterpreted by both male and female old masters artists. The different depictions of Susanna's attitude towards the gaze are the most interesting part of the paintings when compared side by side, how she appears either coy, nude, sexualised or dismissive, questioning where the
'responsibility' lies.
