Artist Interview: Xenia Leti
Xenia Leti
October 2019

What does your work aim to say?
I exist between two worlds - world of words (cinematography and philosophy) and world of silence (photography). I think, I’m so deeply in love with photography because it can be silent. I don’t have any statements messages etc.

Who are your biggest influence?
Ingmar Bergman

What challenges you face trying to bring your work to new audience?
I don’t face any challenges. I just started to show my photography.

Which current art world trends are you following?
I don’t follow any current art world trends. I know nothing about contemporary photography but I can talk endlessly about... what photography used to be. Same with art world in general.

Who was your inspiration to get you started?
I was inspired by cinematography.

Who are you and what do you do?
Artist, photographer, filmmaker.

What themes do you pursue?
I want my photography to be clean and simple but I want some disorder and distortion at the same time. Somewhere between perfectionism and human nature. I don’t pursue any themes. I think it doesn't matter what subject we choose it's always all about us - our inner worlds, human nature in general, the duality of human nature etc. Psychoanalysis is very inspirational as well.

Name three artist you'd like to be compare to?
I admire them and feel very grateful I have a chance to see their work. I don’t want to be compared to anyone - it would be weird. They are geniuses.
Ingmar Bergman. Andrei Tarkovsky. Vincent van Gogh.

Whats your favorite art work?
There are too many... let’s say The Storm by Edvard Munch.

Which film camera do you use and whats your favorite film to use?
I use different medium format cameras - Hasselblad Rolleiflex etc. I prefer Kodak Tmax 400.
